Five Simple Rules for Future Faculty

Applying for tenure-track faculty jobs is complicated. The Five Simple Rules for Future Faculty webinar series will help break it down into manageable pieces. Each session will focus on a different aspect of the faculty job search process and will offer five key action items or ideas to help you navigate the process of finding and applying for faculty positions. From developing your job search strategy to the interviewing and negotiating process, this series will help you learn what you need to know to maximize your competitiveness on the faculty job market.

Participants will come away with concrete, actionable insights that will help them to navigate the challenges of the academic job market. Sessions will run every other Wednesday from mid-September through mid-November. Topics will include:

  • September 11: Five Simple Rules for Future Faculty: Data-Driven Insights into the Academic Job Market
  • September 25: Five Simple Rules for Future Faculty: Time Management during the Job Search
  • October 9: Five Simple Rules for Future Faculty: Aligning Your Materials with Institution Type, Priorities, and Values
  • October 23: Five Simple Rules for Future Faculty: Tips and Tricks for Acing the Zoom Interview
  • November 6: Five Simple Rules for Future Faculty: Making the Most of the On-Campus Interview
  • November 20: Five Simple Rules for Future Faculty: Strategies for Successful Negotiations

Each webinar will run from 12:00pm-12:30pm CT with some time for questions following the presentation. Each session will be recorded and will be made accessible to everyone who registers for the series.

Note: This event is for all UW–Madison postdocs from any discipline. UW-Madison graduate students are also welcome to register and attend the sessions.
